Subway

The subway has become one of the most sought-after sight seeing spot in Cincinnati. Though there is no dearth of tourist spots in the city, the subway is mostly in demand. History takes us to the story that during ancient US era, every important city had a subway. These cities were Chicago, New York, LA and many others. It was in the beginning of the twentieth century that Cincinnati also had a subway for its own. The main hindrance in building the subway was to empty the Erie and Miami canal.

In 1920, after the end of world war one, the first step towards making the subway was taken. The first ground was broken at Walnut Street. The cost was initially estimated to be $12 million but later it was reduced to only $6 million.

Today, the subway is still intact and right beneath the feet of the citizens of Cincinnati. Though major portion of the subway cannot be visited by the common people, there still remains great curiosity about the place.

The subway runs under Central Parkway for nearly two miles.
