The purple people bridge is an ancient landmark in the history of Cincinnati. It stretches over the Ohio river and connects Newport, Kentucky and Cincinnati. Initially opened as a railroad bridge, the bridge now remains closed for automobiles and rails; opened only for pedestrians. In 2001, after the bridge was renovated by the connecting cities authorities, they put a poll to decide its color. And the majority picked purple; therefore the name, 'people purple bridge'.
