Ultimate Summer Destination - Guide to Special Features and Events in Coney Island
You reach Coney Island when you travel some 10 miles east from Downtown Cincinnati. Sitting on the banks of Ohio River, the Island presently represents a theme park offering a wide range of entertainment opportunities for visitors across age profiles. Way back in 1867 Coney Island was an apple orchard but through subsequent evolutions became Coney Island Park and later transitioned to just Coney Island.
This effort aimed at linking the park with the New York attraction carrying the same name. The fortunes of Coney Island tilted both ways until 1991 when the property was acquired by Ronald Walker, a businessman from Cincinnati. This move helped Coney Island resurrect itself and become an absorbing amusement park in the region.
In modern times, Coney Island is also home for a series of festivals. Leading the pack of these festivals are Cincinnati Flower and Farm Fest, Summerfair Arts Festival, Cincinnati Celtic World Festival and the Appalachian Festival. Visitors can also enjoy concerts at the Moonlit Gardens in the park. If you remember 'Banana Splits', an old children's TV show, you can recall some of the scenes that were filmed at Coney Island.
The Sunlite pool at the Island deserves special mention because it is also among the largest pools in the world. The diving boards add further luster to the pool rendering the facility enjoyable for all visitors irrespective of their age.
Before visiting Coney Island, visitors would do well to take a good look at the website of the facility and understand admission rules, prices and discounts. With a proper understanding of various combinations offered you could potentially save some dollars.
