
A Brief History of Ohio River and Cincinnati - Origin and Development
Cincinnati is one of the major cities of Ohio in United States of America. This city was founded in 1788. It was founded by Colonel Robert Patterson and John Cleves Symmes. This city began as three settlements on the north shore of Ohio River.
This small settlement got its name from the Roman general and dictator named Cincinnatus. He was famous and well known because he saved Rome from destruction. Cincinnati was a home to large number of descendants who were a part of the Revolutionary Wars.
There is a strong connection between Cincinnati, Ohio and Rome till now. Revolutionary War soldiers were granted land in this small settlement. In 1802 it was chartered as a village and in 1819, Cincinnati was incorporated as a city.
Cincinnati is also popularly known as the City of Seven Hills. There are seven hills that make a beautiful crescent from the east bank to the west bank of the Ohio River. Being the largest tributary of the Mississippi River, it looks gorgeous with the seven hills flanked on the banks of Ohio River.
Quite a lot of historical beginnings took place in this city. America's first Jewish Hospital was first opened in this city in the year 1850. Similarly First Municipal Fire Department was first established in 1853 in Cincinnati.
Cincinnati later on laid six streetcar lines in 1859. European immigration took place in the city. It was one of the boomtown in the heart of America which gave a tough competition to the coastal cities in terms of wealth. Many other beginnings took place in the city of Cincinnati.
